I'm on birth control pills. So my period is VERY steady. But for the past few days I've had a very very bad cold. My period came a day late. I was worried. So was it because I had a bad cold that my period came late.
Anything that causes stress to the body can delay your menses. This includes weight loss, illness, mental stress.
